American Roulette

A form of roulette played in casinos across the United States. There are a minimum of 38 slots on this wheel. They range from 1 to 36 and include both a zero and a double zero slot. In contrast to the single-zero European version, this roulette game contains two zero slots that are not colored red or black. They are usually green in color and make a total house edge of over 5%.

This version of roulette is most commonly played in North, South, and Central America. As a result of the greater house edge, American roulette is considered one of the worst variations of the game for players.

American Wheel

A Roulette wheel that has double-zero (0 and 00) pockets and a number series of (clockwise starting with 0)

0, 28, 9, 26, 30, 11, 7, 20, 32, 17, 5, 22, 34, 15, 3, 24, 36, 13, 1, 00, 27, 10, 25, 29, 12, 8, 19, 31, 18, 6, 21, 33, 16, 4, 23, 35, 14, 2.

Bankroll

The sum of money a player has available to place wagers. Even so, it’s not a good idea for the player to add up his or her bankroll and other cash on hand at the same time. A player’s bankroll is the sum of money he or she is willing to lose in a gambling session.

Bet On The Layout

This is the phrase for a bet that is placed on any of the individual numbers.

Biased Numbers

Every serious competitor needs to be familiar with the term “Biased Numbers.” A cluster of numbers on a roulette wheel that has been shown to hit more frequently than others based on a statistical analysis of past outcomes. Thus, the wheel is displaying a bias toward particular locations over others, and not all numbers have an equal chance of winning on any given spin.

Biased Wheel

This describes a wheel that has been altered in some way. If something like this happens at a casino, chances are it was an inside job or a widespread flaw. If a problem is detected, the operator will immediately turn it off. It’s possible to hear a “gaffed wheel” reference as well.

Big Number

A value that is higher than what would be expected on average. Over time, “Big Numbers” could point to a skewed distribution or biased wheel.

Black Bet

The term “black bet” refers to any wager placed on the color “black” outcome.

Blaise Pascal

Roulette is widely attributed to this French mathematician.

Block Betting

Refers to a wager placed on a group of numbers located in the same sector of the roulette wheel. In the context of this game, this is a tactic mostly used by experienced players.

Bottom Track

The bottom track is the inwardly sloping section of the roulette wheel that does not move as the wheel is spun. When the roulette ball reaches the bottom of the track, it will bounce onto the wheel’s head and fall into one of the pockets.

Boule (La Boule)

The French casino favorite Boule, sometimes known as the "small game," is essentially a watered-down version of the more complex Roulette. Only 9 numbers and 3 colors (red, black, and green) are usable for wagering in this game. A little rubber ball is spun around the wheel and the outcome is determined by where it lands in one of the several colored holes. It's a quick and easy game.

C

California Roulette

Casino owners in California created a new variation of roulette that employs cards instead of a wheel and a ball to get around the state’s ban on the original game. This variation of roulette may be still legal in some places.

Call Bets

In a call bet, the bettor declares the amount of the stake aloud but does not place any chip on the table. Many casinos do not allow the traditional call bet but accept “announced bets” which is when a player yells out a bet and then promptly puts the chips on the table to cover that bet. All the numbers on a given segment of the roulette wheel are included in these bets. Voisins du Zero, Le Tiers du Cylindre, and Orphelins are the three most popular call bets.

Cancellation Betting System

A method of betting in which the outcome of a series of bets is determined by canceling out numbers after a win and adding numbers after a loss.

Capping A Bet

To add chips after a bet has already been declared a winner. This act is illegal and is widely frowned upon by casinos.

Carre

The French name for the Corner Bet. it is often known as a wager on any four consecutive numbers in a certain area of the layout.

Casino Advantage

This represents the degree of edge the casino or house has over a player. Sometimes, the edge or advantage depends on how skilled the player is.

Chasing Losses

This is a strategy where a player continues increasing his initial bets to recoup what has been lost. “Chasing losses” is regarded as a highly dangerous and unrewarding strategy of playing roulette.

Check Rack

The “check rack” refers to a tray where the casino chips are kept.

Cheval

“Cheval” is another term for describing “Split Bet.” It is a French term and is based on whether or not a certain pair of numbers would appear on the next spin.

Color Up

To trade in lower denomination chips for higher denomination ones at a roulette table.

Column Bet

A column bet is placed on one of the three columns. You can do so by clicking on the column you want to bet on (each one consists of 12 numbers). This is a two-to-one bet.

Columns

To facilitate wagering, a roulette table features three columns, each containing 12 numbered slots. Players place bets on which column they believe the ball will land in. You can place a column wager on any of the following numbers for a payout of 2:1 if the ball lands in a nonzero slot.

1st column: 1, 4, 7, 10 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34

2nd column: 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35

3rd column: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36

Combination Bet

This type of wagering occurs when a player bets on more than one number in the layout. The player is essentially hedging their bets and covering multiple numbers in the hope of hitting one to cover all of their bets and make a smaller profit. Hedging your bets is risky and generally not recommended. However, many people play roulette this way.

Corner Bet

An inside bet covering four digits and often called a square bet. It has a payout odd of 8 to 1. To facilitate, you need to put your chip at the intersection of four numbers. If you placed a $10 wager and it paid off, you’d receive $80 including your original $10 stake. Corner bet is also the meaning of the word Carré in French roulette.

Credits

Most online casino games use a credit system to represent the money you set aside for betting (bankroll). This is a ploy used by gambling establishments to make you forget that you’re betting cash.

Croupier

An identification of the casino worker in charge of the roulette wheel. However, the name “dealer” is more common, especially in American casinos, and describes them in a more technical sense. Since they do not deal the cards, “croupier” is the more proper and appropriate name.

D

D’Alembert System

A betting system in which the player must increase their wager by one unit after every loss. For instance, if your initial wager were £5, you would increase it by £5 with each successive setback. After a successful round, your bet goes back to its original size. The Contra D’Alembert method mandates a one-unit increase in wager following each successful outcome.

Dealer Signature

Some dealers will always spin the ball, even though this has absolutely nothing to do with determining which numbers will be winners. This signature can be used by players to predict where the ball will land based on the dealer’s initial spin.

Derniere

“Derniere” is the French word for “last,” and it designates the final set of Twelve numbers in the Dozen Bet.

Devils Game

Roulette has earned a reputation as “the devil’s game.” Not because the house has an insurmountable advantage, but rather because the sum of the numbers 1 to 36 is 666.

Dolly

In American roulette, the croupier uses a wooden or plastic marker to place in the square of the winning number, as opposed to the French version, where the croupier only points with the stick. Dolly is a nickname for the score marker due to its doll-like appearance. Its primary purpose is to keep participants informed of the winning number until all prizes have been awarded.

Double Up System

This is a betting method in which, whenever a participant loses, they double their bet. This action is taken to recoup some funds lost in the previous wager. In Roulette, that’s what is called a progressive betting system. It’s also known as the “Martingale” system of gambling.

Double Zero

Specifically, it refers to a roulette wheel's “00” slot. This feature is exclusive to American roulette wheels, which are also regarded as double-zero wheels. The house edge in double-zero roulette games is 5.26 percent, compared to 2.70 percent in single-zero games.

Dozen Bet

This is an optional wager on any of the three sections (1–12, 13–24, and 25–36). So, the player’s stake can go on any one of those three sets of 12 numbers. Betting on the tens pays out at odds of two to one. If you placed a $10 bet and it paid off, you would receive $20, plus your initial $10 stake.

E

###Electronic Roulette

An electrical variant of the classic roulette wheel design. It is a fast-paced roulette machine and can also be referred to as rapid roulette or automated roulette.

En Plein

A French word for a straight-up bet.

En Prison

The literal translation of this French phrase is “in jail” or “in prison”. This regulation is strictly for even-money bets. Some virtual gambling establishments let punters choose between reclaiming half their wager after a zero result and locking it away for the next spin. Second, if the next spin also yields a zero, the bettor loses their whole wager.

European Roulette

It’s the variant of Roulette you’ll find in most Asian and European casinos. The house advantage is reduced because there is just one zero used in this game. If the ball lands in the zero slot, the en prison rule lets players recoup half of their even-money wagers. As a result of these regulation adjustments, the house edge in European roulette is significantly smaller than in American roulette.

European Wheel

A single-zero roulette wheel that includes the following number sequence (0, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2, 25, 17, 34, 6, 27, 13, 36, 11, 30, 8, 23, 10, 5, 24, 16, 33, 1, 20, 14, 31, 9, 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, and 3, 26) in clockwise order, beginning with 0.

Fair Game

This describes a level playing field when neither the dealer nor the player has any discernible advantage. However, many players believe that the game of roulette is rigged.

Fibonacci System

A strategy for betting in which a player bets in a series based on the well-known Fibonacci sequence. It is a form of progressive betting in which successive wagers are made up of the sum of the two preceding wagers.

Ficheur

To prevent confusion, American Roulette uses separate piles of chips of varying colors for each player. The croupiers have access to a high-tech device known as Ficheur, which can automatically sort the chips by color so that they are always in playable condition.

Five Number Bet

On an American double-zero roulette wheel, this is widely regarded as the worst possible bet. The player is placing wagers on five digits at once: 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3. When playing with a double-zero roulette wheel, this is the only bet where the house edge is higher than any of the other options. Compared to the house edge of 5.26% on all other bets, this one is 7.89%. As an advice, this is a terrible gamble to make and should be avoided except if you are a professional.

Flat Bettor

A player who consistently wagers the same amount on each hand. This player never changes the size of his stakes no matter the situation.

French Bets

In European casinos, this wager is typically placed by high rollers and is hence rather popular. Specific areas of the roulette wheel are dedicated to these wagers. To cover all of the numbers in a particular sector of the wheel, a player might make a French bet by placing multiple bets simultaneously.

French Wheel

A single-zero roulette wheel.

G

Golden Numbers

In roulette, “golden numbers” are ones that consistently come up victorious, despite the seemingly random nature of the game.

Grand Martingale

A variation on the Martingale System in which bets are doubled and an additional unit is added whenever a player experiences a loss.

Greens

‘Greens’ describe Roulette chips that have a value of $25.

H

High Bet

In a “high bet”, one can win twice as much money betting on the first set of numbers (1-18). It is also called an “even money bet”.

High/Low

In a high/low, a player can make an outside wager based on whether the ball would land on a 1–18 (low) or 19–36 (high) number. If the bet wins, the player gets a payout at odds of 1 to 1 but loses if the ball lands in the “0” slot (unless the la partage or en prison rules are in effect).

Hoca

Hoca is one of the earliest variations of the Roulette game.

Hot Table

A hot table describes a Roulette table where players have been winning on streaks.

House Edge

Casinos can’t afford to lose money on any of the games they offer if they want to keep their doors open and make a profit.

House Edge represents the casino’s statistical edge over the gambler. There is a 2.70% chance of losing on a roulette wheel with a single zero. All other wagers on a double-zero wheel have a house edge of 5.26%, whereas the Five Numbers Bet has a house edge of 7.89%.

In Roulette, the house edge varies only by game type. This advantage is inherent to the rules of the game. If you play European roulette, you have a 2.7% house edge; if you play American roulette, the house edge is 5.26%, nearly double.

I

Impair

Jeu Zéro

The ‘zero game’ bet, often known as a call bet, encompasses the 12–15 positions on the roulette wheel. Numbers 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, and 15 are all included (in the order that they appear on the wheel).

L

Labouchere System

A method of gambling in which you can determine the order in which bets are placed based on the sum of money you hope to win. One stake in the series is removed after each victory, and the objective is completed once all bets have been removed.

La Partage

A regulation in roulette that is similar to "En Prison," but with the player losing half their wager and not getting the chance to leave it "En Prison" for the next spin. Occurs when the outcome is 0 and applies to the "outside" even-money bets of Red/Black, High/Low, Odd/Even.

Layout

The layout refers to the arrangement of numerals and other visual elements on the playing surface. This is where bets are placed and where winnings are distributed.

Layout Strategies

Strategy and systems of betting that aim to beat the house edge by strategic wagering rather than by identifying and exploiting any inherent flaws in the roulette wheel or the dealer's play. These are also known as "pass-go" systems.

Le Tiers du Cylindre

Live Roulette

Live Roulette is like a different version of online roulette, except a real person is on the screen. Each game's outcome is determined by this dealer's spin of the wheel, which is then announced.

Low Bet

To place money on any of the low numbers (1-18) to come up on the next spin.

Luminar Or LuminAR

John Huxley, a manufacturer, and provider of casino equipment created an illuminated roulette table known as Luminar. Its primary function is to draw attention to the winning areas of the pattern. To carry out this function, the LuminAR roulette table makes use of bright LEDs. The result is very similar to the winning parts of Touch-bet Roulette that flash brightly whenever a player hits a winning number.

M

Manque

The French term for Low Bet.

Marker

The winning number in a Roulette game is marked after each spin using the marker, an instrument employed by the croupier. Before the croupier takes the marker off the table, players are not permitted to make any fresh wagers for the forthcoming spin.

Martingale System

A regressive progression betting system in which the bettor must wager initially on even money bets (high/low, red/black, etc.) and must double his or her wager after each unsuccessful wager. With the Grand Martingale system, you must double your wager after each loss and afterward add your original stake to the total. Also, if you lose and then win, you will get your original bet back plus the amount you lost.

Match Play

To entice customers to the casino, several establishments provide a bonus in the form of a match play bet. Bets of up to $25 will be matched by the casino. For every $25 a player puts on the table, the casino will put up another $25. An even money wager on this match would pay out $50.

Mayer Line

Noir

"Noir" is a French slang used to describe a Black Bet.

Non-value Chip

A chip that is used in Roulette gambling where the monetary worth depends on both the buy-in and the number of chips in play.

O

**Odd/Even Bet **

There is a side bet where you can wager if the ball will fall on an odd or even number. If successful, the wager pays out at odds of 1:1; if the ball lands in the zero slots, the bettor loses their wager (unless the la partage or en prison rules are in effect).

On The Square

"On the game" is used to describe a Roulette game that is clear and honest without any form of cheating.

Orphans

All three of these numbers (6, 34, and 17) are located close to one another on the wheel. However, due to their separation on the map, they are often referred to as "orphans." In Europe, where French roulette is popular, this name has long been in use. In the hopes that the ball will land on one of these numbers, some players may keep betting on the orphans over and over again.

Orphelins

Orphelins is a term with French origins and refers to a group of numbers that are close together on the Roulette wheel but separated on the table layout. Gamblers who enjoy roulette often place wagers on the orphelins in the hopes that the ball will land on a pocket of the wheel corresponding to their wager. To facilitate wagering on orphelins, casinos typically provide tiny cards on roulette tables depicting the wheel layout. Block betting is another common name for this type of wager.

Specifically, when betting on Orphelins, you'll be placing your chips on the 17-34-6 and 1-20-14-31-9 segments of the roulette wheel.

Outside Bets

These wagers are placed on the exterior of the betting table. Examples of such bets are those with the highest odds of success but lower payoff. Bets on colors, numbers and other game outcomes can be placed here.

P

Pair

A French term or phrase used to describe an Even Bet.

Parlay

Parlay is a term used to describe a decision of doubling a stake following a successful wager. As far as the participants are concerned, there is no special mathematics at work here. The player's sole choices are the stakes he'll take and his take-home payoff goal. It's crucial that you win two games in a row, if not more. Eventually, it'll let the gamer increase their earnings by a factor of ten or more, or whatever their goal is. Or, the player may end up losing the whole wager.

Paroli Betting System

A little bit similar to a parlay in the sense that it is also a betting method in which a player must double his or her betting amount after each successful wager. However, after recording a streak of three straight wins, you have to reset your staking amount bet to the starting level.

Passe

A French term used to describe a High Bet.

Pockets

A place on the Roulette wheel where the ball could potentially land. From one through thirty-six and zero, there are a total of three score compartments (and a 00 pocket on an American Roulette wheel). There is room for eight players directly around the roulette wheel, and another sixteen can join in from the "theatre," a second line running circumferentially around the first.

R

Random Number Generators or RNGs

Results of computerized casino games are determined by random number generators (or RNGs for short). That's also the case with classic table games like blackjack and poker, which can be played at several online casinos. Random number generators (RNGs) are computer programs that are designed to produce random results whenever they are used whilst also defining a draw, deal, or spin.

In roulette, every spin is completely unrelated to any others that have come before it. The outcomes of past rounds of play in online casino games have no bearing on the algorithm used to generate subsequent rounds.

Rapid Roulette

Bets in Rapid Roulette are placed at computer terminals. A ball is spun around on an automated roulette wheel amid all the monitors. When a player hits the jackpot, their winnings are automatically sent to their terminal. There are variants where a live dealer controls the ball spin. This variant of roulette allows casinos to make better use of their floor space, accommodating far more gamblers than could fit around a conventional table.

The same system used at land-based casinos by roulette players is now available to those playing the game online. You'd see the layout, and then the ball would be spun by a real dealer at a genuine roulette table. With this feature, players may experience the thrill of roulette no matter where they are, thanks to the seamless integration of online and live play.

Only complete numbers (straight up), pairs of adjacent numbers (split), groups of adjacent numbers, and portions of the wheel are acceptable for wagers. Outside bets are not accepted.

RTP (return to player)

After a very large number of spins of the appropriate roulette wheel, the return to player rate is a word that indicates how much money the game should return to gamers in the long run. It serves as the opposite of a house edge, and an RTP of 97% is equivalent to a house edge of 3%.

Typically, the payout for this wager is 35:1. For some roulette players, betting on their fortunate number is a must. Whether it's a milestone birthday, the age of their child, or the age when something significant happened in their lives, age is often a significant factor.

The casino has a little advantage over the gambler on these types of wagers. There are 37 digits on an American roulette table and 36 on a European one.

Street

A bet of this type involves placing chips along the outer edge of a row comprising three numbers on the roulette table. The standard odds for this wager are eleven to one.

The predetermined sum with which wagers are made. As an illustration, if you plan to employ the Martingale technique and your initial bankroll is $100, you might wish to begin placing bets of $5. So, $5 equals 1 unit, $10 equals 2 units, $20 equals 4 units, and so on.

V

Visual Ball Tracking

By keeping track of the ball's initial position before the spin and its final landing spot, some players hope to determine in which section of the wheel the ball will rest. They might look at a table of previous results to make an educated guess about where the ball will land. After viewing the release, players place block bets on where they think the ball will land in the game. It is a flawed strategy that is unlikely to provide positive results.

Visual Wheel Tracking

To anticipate where the ball will land, this term describes the action of visually watching the ball and wheel.

Voisins du Zero

A French phrase used mostly in European casino sites to designate a bet on a cluster of numbers between 22 and 25 on the roulette wheel, just beyond zero. Numbers 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2, and 25 (in the sequence they appear on the wheel) are all included. Neighbors are the literal translation of the French term "voisins".

W

Wheel

When the ball comes to a stop on the backtrack, it descends into the wheel, which is just the Roulette wheel spinning continuously.

Wheel Checks

The casino will designate some chips for a player who is wagering on a wide variety of numbers. It's also a must-do when everyone at the table is crammed in together. The wheel checks will be handed out by the dealer and used at the table. No one is allowed to take these to the cashier since they are worth money at the table. Before leaving the roulette table, they must be paid in for casino chips from the dealer.

Only the player to whom a given set of chips has been issued shall utilize them at the roulette table, and only at that table.

Wheel Chips

Used to describe the special chips used only for a Roulette game.

Wheel Clocking

Wheel-Clocking can be broken down into two primary explanations. The first explanation is to record the outcomes of each roulette spin to identify trends and the likelihood of wheel bias. The second meaning is to try to guess where the ball will land by keeping an eye on, or electronically timing, the speed of the wheel.

Wheel Head

The term "wheel head" refers to the part of the wheel where the numbers and their corresponding pockets are located. It's the most significant part of the wheel because it's where the ball will land and influence the outcome of the game whilst determining whether or not a player wins.

Wheel Roller

Used to describe the roulette dealer or croupier in a casino.

Wheel Strategies

Tactics that the player employs to gain an advantage by capitalizing on flaws in the game's wheel.

Z

Zero

This is the zero slot on the roulette wheel. Roulette wheels always have at least one '0' slot. A double-zero "0" pocket is also present on American roulette wheels. The house edge for games with a double zero is 5.26%, compared to 2.70% for games played on roulette wheels with a single zero.

Zero Pockets

Describing the pockets on the Roulette wheel featuring 0 and 00.
